Shadowrun Returns with a Release Date

Awesome news for Shadowrun fans, Harebrained Schemes announced a June 2013 release date for the new Shadowrun Returns game. They also crushed the DRM-free dreams of many but I think they’ll be able to rise above this tragic turn of events.

Anyway, I’ve been a fan since the 16-bit days (never got into the pen & paper) but for those not familiar with the cyperpunk RPG Shadowrun, “the game is loosely based on the novel Never Deal with a Dragon by Shadowrun co-creator Robert N. Charrette and set in the year 2050. The player takes on the role of Jake Armitage, a man suffering from amnesia after having been critically wounded by assassins. The plot then follows Jake as he attempts to uncover his own identity and the identity of the mysterious figure who wants him dead, and eventually complete his mission.” Shadowrun Returns continues the SNES and Genesis stories with better graphics and a deep story with Windows, Mac, iPad and Android ports. Kickstarter FTW.

I’ve pre-ordered my copy but just in case you needed a little boost, here are the product details:

The Shadowrun Returns Game: Seattle Campaign
The year is 2054 and your old friend Sam has been murdered in Seattle. His sister Jessica begs you to find the killers and bring them to justice, one way or another. Soon you’ll be embroiled in a mystery that expands from missing organs, an antagonistic detective and biker gangs all the way up to the dynastic control of one of the largest Megacorps.

The Shadowrun Returns Editor
Create your own Runs and share them with the entire Shadowrun community! The Editor is the same one that the Harebrained level designers are using to create the game. With it you can construct new stories using all the same pieces of art, weapons, bad-guys and more!

The Shadowrun Returns Soundtrack
From the composers of the much-loved Shadowrun SEGA and SNES games, the Shadowrun Returns Soundtrack will pay homage to the classics but with a modern twist.

A PDF version of the Shadowrun Returns Anthology
An illustrated book of short stories written for the game and edited by Jordan Weisman, the creator of Shadowrun.

Shadowrun Returns DLC: Berlin Campaign (release date TBD)
Shadowrun Returns’ first major Downloadable Content release will be set in Berlin, a city of corporate domination and anarchy, fighting to rise above the devastation of the EuroWars. In addition to an entirely new story to experience, this campaign setting will include all of the Editor components you’ll need to create your own stories set in Berlin.

Shadowrun Returns USB Dog Tags
These stylish USB Dog Tags are made of durable brushed metal with the iconic Shadowrun “S” inset into the front of the USB piece. The drive contains 8 GB of flash storage. (International customers include $10 for Shipping & Handling)
